Instructions for DTF Transfers with Iron

To achieve professional results at home, set your iron to a temperature that matches the fabric you're using (typically the "Cotton" or "High" setting for cotton blends) and apply hard, constant pressure.

Press the design for ~20 seconds, ensuring you cover the entire graphic. Peel the film after 5 seconds—this can be done while the transfer is still hot or after it has cooled.

Finally, perform a second press for 20 seconds to seal the design into the fibers.

Step-by-Step Pressing Instructions

1. Position Your Design

Place your garment on a flat, hard surface (a wooden table or a firm ironing board works best; avoid soft, padded surfaces). Smooth out any wrinkles and pre-iron the fabric for 5 seconds to remove moisture. Position your DTF transfer with the clear film facing up and the design exactly where you want it.

2. Press

Hold your iron with both hands to apply maximum downward pressure. Instead of sliding the iron back and forth like you’re ironing a shirt, press down firmly on one section at a time for 20 seconds. If the design is larger than the iron, move to the next section and repeat until the entire graphic has been heated thoroughly.

3. Peel Hot After a Few Seconds

Wait approximately 5 seconds after you have finished pressing. While the film is still warm (or even if it has cooled down), grab a corner and peel the plastic carrier sheet away in one smooth, steady motion. The design should remain perfectly adhered to the fabric.

4. Final Press

This is the most important step for durability. Place a piece of parchment paper or a thin cotton cloth over the exposed design. Press firmly again for another 20 seconds. This "finishing press" flattens the ink into the texture of the garment, ensuring the print doesn't crack or peel over time.

5. How to Wash

To keep your design looking vibrant for years, follow these care guidelines:

  • Wait: Allow the garment to sit for at least 24 hours before the first wash.

  • Inside Out: Always turn the garment inside out to protect the print.

  • Temperature: Wash in cold or warm water.

  • Detergent: Use mild detergent; avoid bleach and fabric softeners.

  • Drying: Tumble dry on low heat or hang to dry for the best results.
